History
Four dedicated primary teachers viz. Shri Krishnaji Ballal Dongre,
Shri Damodar Sadashiv Karambelkar, Shri Krishnaji Govind Ukidve,
Shri Ramchandra Gopal Deo, took inspiration from the great Shri
Vishnushastri Chiplonkar and started Nutan Marathi Vidyalaya in
Pune in the year 1883. Subsequently five years later i.e. in 1888,
they founded the parent body “The Shikshana Prasaraka Mandali”.
The Mandali is registered both under The Societies Registration
Act, 1860 and The Bombay Public Trusts Act, 1950. S.P.Mandali has
had the fortune of receiving the blessings of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar
Tilak.
In
the last 116 years of its glorious sojourn in the field of education,
S.P.Mandali has established 38 institutions in Maharashtra. These
include Pre-Primary, Secondary & Higher Secondary schools, Arts,
Science and Commerce colleges, an Education college, a school for
hearing impaired children, a therapeutic drug monitoring laboratory,
an institute carrying out research in Ayurvedic and Herbal Medicine
and management institutes. More than 35,000 students are receiving
education in the above-mentioned institutions of the Mandali.
Profile & Trust Details
All
the institutions of S.P.Mandali are known for their academic excellence
and attract students from all parts of India. Ramnarain Ruia College,
Mumbai has been awarded ‘Four Stars’, Ramniranjan Anandilal
Podar College, Mumbai ‘A+’ grade; Sir Parsurambhau College,
Pune ‘A’ grade and Tilak College of Education, Pune
the ‘B +’ grade by the National Assessment & Accreditation
Council of India. Principal L.N.Welingkar Institute of Management,
Mumbai has the distinction of being 7th in the South Asia region.
Welingkar Institute also has several foreign collaborations and
exchange programmes.
Therapeutic
Drug Monitoring Laboratory, Mumbai is unique in the sense that it
is one of the laboratories recognised by the Drug Control Authority
of India for authentic bioequivalence studies of drugs. It is the
only laboratory to be affiliated to a Science College recognised
by the University of Mumbai.
